Excursions of one day

In the morning we drive along the palm gardens of Skoura and visit the Kasbah of Amredhyle, built in the 17th century. We follow the road of the thousand Kasbahs to Kelaa M’Gouna, known for its annual festival “Moussem des Roses”, to Boumalne and to arrive in Tinghir. 12 km further lies the Gorges du Todra. The last 600 m of the gorge is most spectacular as the canyon narrows to 10 meters and with its steep, smooth rock walls up to 160 meters high. We walk through the gorge and admire this natural wonder. We lunch in a typical restaurant where we also will enjoy beautiful views and wonderfull landscapes. At the end of the day we return to Ouarzazate.

In the morning we depart from Ouarzazate through the Anti-Atlas mountains over the pass Ait Saoun to the village of Agdz. We leave the road and take the track of the caravans that allows us to explore the Draa Valley with its thousands of palm trees. We visit the Kasbah Tamnougalte with its typical architectural features and follow the trail enjoying the southern scenery to Zagora. We drive further to Tamgroute where we visit the Koran library with it’s collection of ancient religious books and the pottery workshops. A little further we come to the dunes of Tinfou, also called the golden sand dunes. In Zagora we stop for lunch in a typical restaurant. At the end of the day we drive back through the Draa Valley to Ouarzazate.

This valley is named after the minerals found in this region. We drive along the track to the village Tiguert situated at the foot of the High Atlas. A Berber family invites us for a glass of mint tea. A local guide accompanies us through the mountains by mule. Along the way we get the opportunity to search our own amethyst. We take lunch in the village with a Berber family. In the afternoon we return to Ouarzazate.
